The Palatial Grand heritage building was built in 1911 to  host the then Viceroy of India Charles Hardinge, during whose tenure King Emperor George, the V and Queen Empress Mary laid the foundation of New Delhi as the capital of India.Viceroy Hardinge’s tenure saw better relations between the British administration and the nationalists. The century old  magnificent building  is also one of the rare specimens of the Victorian Indo-Saracenic British Architecture. The intricate details of the building , vibrant glasswork in the finely carved arches and the minerets give the building its charisma. From being the colossal Sita Ram Bagh (garden) to the present day hotel, this landmark has stood as a sentinel to historical events for a century.
